OPPOSITION VIEW #13 CHESHAM UNITED

It’s an Opposition View double header this weekend as to add to yesterdays talk with Cory from Hayes & Yeading we caught up with Chesham United supporter Giles Stevenson.

Name – Giles Stevenson
Age – Old enough to drink 🍻
How long have you supported Chesham? – Went a few times as a young child been really started watching Chesham regularly from 1991.
Any other clubs? – Watford & England
First ever Chesham game – Can’t recall the games from childhood but in 1991 home vs Woking 0-0.

1. How do you feel Chesham performed last season?

The worst start to a season ever seen, including the biggest league defeat I’ve seen 0-7 away at Beaconsfield before a change in management and a strong 2nd half of the season taking us out of the relegation zone into mid table safety & not allowing many goals to be conceded, but in need for a regular scorer to make the difference coming into 19/20 season.

2. We’re in the off season at the moment, how do you feel preparations are going ahead of the new season?

Scoring plenty of goals is good but manly playing on 3G pitches so good practice for Dorchester, Merthyr, Hendon. Also pleased to see a large amount of the squad that finished the season return.

3. Who would you say has been your stand out performer and someone Truro fans should be concerned about next season?

Ryan Blake has looked good in pre-season & hopefully get back to scoring great goals like he did for us at Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup 1st round a few seasons ago. If you print that he’ll pay me £10 or buy the beers for the return journey home. (Had no choice but to print that)

4. What difficulties, if any our your club facing ahead of the new season?

Finding a regular goal scorer and getting used to playing in an all white kit, the same as the team from 1968 did when playing in the amateur cup final at Final, instead of claret and blue as home colours.

5. How would you rate your teams chances in the league this season?

Anything above 8th would be good, play-off place great and potentially possible.

6. What would you say is the best feature about your ground and how would you rate it compared to others in the league?

Great views of the pitch, not all at ground level like at most grounds.

7. Are you looking forward to a trip to Treyew Road?

Having been a few times before with Chesham, I would like us to remain undefeated on my visit.

8. Which team will cause Chesham the most problems this year in your opinion?

Salisbury always looked strong.

9. How do you think Truro will fare this season?

A rebuilding year, both on & off the field.

10. Which club are you most looking forward to visiting and why?

Yate, Blackfield & Langley & Weston Super Mare as the grounds I’ve not visited before this season. I hope to get down to Truro again having visited a few times before, as long as I’m not working that is.

A big thank you to Giles for taking the time to answer our questions. If you want to answer some questions on your club, please feel free to contact us either below or on our social media pages.
